The City of Torrance is located in southwestern region of California´s Los Angeles County. Its currently ranks at LA County´s seventh largest city with 142,384 residents. Its namesake is that of Jared Sidney Torrance, an oilman and real estate developer who founded the city in 1911. Torrance was at one time a section of Rancho San Pedro, an 1822 Spanish land endowment, and publicized as a planned modern neighborhood.
